Parents – Do any of these sound like you…?

  • You’re at work, and want your child to be learning rather than staying at home with a carer!
  • You want some time to relax and your child to also be learning and growing!
  • You simply want them to keep improving over the summer rather than sitting at home, so they’re prepared for their next year of school!

If you answered “yes” or nodded your head to any of the above, then you might be interested in signing them up for our “summer learning lab”!

However, before jumping into anything, we’d love to invite you in for a tuition taster session.

It’s an absolutely FREE, no obligation, no pressure session, where your child can decide if they like the tutoring, and we can discuss what works best for you!

Pen and paper tuition

Old school tutoring vs New school?

At BTC we use old school methods of teaching ONLY.

That means we teach in classrooms, with tutors present at all times and pen to paper learning methods.

No computers. No remote learning. No distractions.

Why pen & paper? Because science proves that the act of writing with a pen on paper improves memory, learning speed and overall development of new neurons in the brain.

In fact, an article, published by Susan Dynarski in Harvard Graduate School of Education highlighted a study which showed that students using computers or tablets learnt less and earned worse grades.

Another study done by Princeton university had students watch a lecture, assigning them tablets or pen & paper. Understanding of the lecture, which was measured by a standardized test, was MUCH worse for the students with tablets.

That’s why we pride ourselves on our old school methods, and we wholeheartedly believe it’s the reason we have such happy parents & confident students!

Mental block

#1 mental block to your child's success in the classroom…

Nearly all the children who come to us struggle with motivation or confidence.

So our tutoring is fully designed to not only improve their knowledge, but their self-confidence. We want them to build a real passion for learning!

Why? Because we’re firm believers that enjoyment precedes achievement and our tutors, staff and pen to paper teaching method is fully catered towards effective learning, wins in the classroom and skyrocketing confidence!

We're Answering Your Questions...

Do you set homework?

Homework is optional. If you'd like it assigned regularly, please speak with your child's tutor or the centre manager

Can I request to cover a specific topic with my tutor?

Absolutely. In 1:1 sessions, requests can be made at any time. In group classes, we’ll do our best to accommodate topic requests. Please give at least 24 hours' notice so tutors can prepare effectively.

Do you cater for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN)?

Yes. We support students with a variety of learning needs. Please speak with your Centre Director to ensure we tailor the learning experience appropriately.

Do you offer 1:1 tuition?

Yes, we provide fully bespoke 1:1 tuition both in-centre and online. Contact us to discuss your child's needs and our availability.

What happens if I miss a session?

If you give at least 24 hours’ notice, we’re happy to reschedule your session free of charge. Sessions missed without notice are still chargeable.

What’s the format of your sessions?

Our sessions follow a traditional classroom format. Tutors use pencil-and-paper methods with live marking – errors are addressed in real-time. Every student receives support, regardless of whether they raise their hand. Verbal feedback is provided to parents or carers after each session.

Can I pause my membership?

Yes. You can freeze your membership for one calendar month at a small cost. This holds your child’s place and means you won’t be charged a joining fee when you return.

How do you choose your tutors?

We look for tutors who combine strong academic backgrounds, relevant teaching experience, and a passion for education that fits with our ethos. All tutors hold enhanced DBS checks. Tutor profiles can be found on our website or in-centre.

How many students does each tutor work with?

In Maths & English Academy, tutors support around five students at a time. In classes, group sizes are kept small, usually no more than 8 children, to ensure personalised support.

How do I get feedback on my child’s progress?

Verbal feedback is given after each session. If you’re unable to attend or want more detail, you can request a formal feedback meeting with your Centre Director—available every 6 weeks.

How does payment work?

We invoice mid-month for the upcoming month’s tuition. All sessions must be paid for in advance. We accept payment through Stripe, as well as Childcare Vouchers, Tax-Free Childcare, and CGPS.

What resources do you use?

We use a wide range of resources sourced and reviewed regularly to match curriculum updates and student needs. Feedback or suggestions are welcome—email sophie@buckstutorials.co.uk.
