The People behind Bucks Tutorial Centres

Bucks Tutorials Sophie

Sophie Horace-Beck

General Manager

I’m Sophie, General Manager of Bucks Tutorial Centres, with branches in High Wycombe, Chesham, and Maidenhead. With a strong academic foundation from Francis Holland School and years of experience across both mainstream and alternative education, I understand that no two learners are the same – and that’s exactly why I built a team and a system that flexes around the child, not the other way round.
I’ve been tutoring for over three years, working with students from all walks of life – from those preparing for 11+ and GCSE exams to young people out of school entirely. My approach is patient, adaptable, and tailored on the spot to meet each student’s unique learning style. I have experience with EHCPs, exam access arrangements, and reintegrating children back into education after time away.
At BTC, I’ve helped students transform from anxious and disengaged to confident and successful – whether that’s passing their GCSEs, gaining entry to grammar school, or simply finding joy in learning again. Progress is our priority, but it’s always delivered with compassion.
My proudest moments? Seeing students others had written off start to believe in themselves again – and proving everyone wrong.

Bucks Tutorials Alinah

Alina Faheem

Senior Tutor

I bring a powerful combination of strong academic expertise and exceptional interpersonal skills to every learning environment.
With deep subject knowledge that goes beyond the curriculum, I’m able to break down complex topics into clear, digestible concepts—always offering multiple explanations to suit different learning styles. I specialize in identifying students’ misconceptions and targeting the root of their difficulties, helping them build not just knowledge, but real problem-solving skills.
My ultimate goal is to teach students how to learn. I focus on developing their independence through study strategies, critical thinking techniques, and personalized feedback that accelerates growth and builds confidence.
Equally important is the human side of teaching. I pride myself on being a clear communicator, a patient guide, and an empathetic listener. I create a safe, supportive atmosphere where students feel understood, respected, and empowered to ask questions, take risks, and make mistakes without fear. I believe that learning thrives in an environment built on trust, encouragement, and curiosity.

Bucks Tutorials Niamh

Niamh Connors

Centre Director For Chesham

Hi there, I’m Niamh Connors, the new Centre Director here at Bucks Tutorial Centre. I’m a recent Law graduate from the University of Leeds with a strong passion for education, community engagement, and helping young people reach their full potential.
Before stepping into this role I spent several years in supervisory positions in the retail sector, where I developed strong leadership, organisational, and people skills. I’ve also completed a number of legal internships, which have strengthened my analytical thinking and attention to detail—skills I now bring into the tutoring environment to help students thrive both academically and personally.
Throughout my studies and career, I’ve actively taken part in numerous charity events and community projects, and I’m committed to building strong relationships with families, local schools, and the wider community in Chesham and beyond. I truly enjoy working with children and young learners, and I believe every student deserves tailored support, patience, and encouragement to succeed.
I’m thrilled to be leading a dedicated team of tutors and can’t wait to bring a fresh energy, structure, and care to the centre. Whether I'm supporting children in their studies or ensuring our centre runs smoothly, I’m here to make a meaningful difference every step of the way.

Bucks Tutorials Hashir

Hashir I.

Dual Site Director For Maidenhead And High Wycombe

I have a background in Games Development (BSc) and Advanced 3D Game Art (MSc). Over the years, I’ve supported university-level students and led a funded research project designing an AI-powered educational game for children with learning difficulties. At BTC, I love the small class settings – I’m able to give each student the attention they need while keeping the sessions fun!

With me as your child’s tutor, progress That Feels Like Play: I incorporate fun, academic mini-games and incentivize learning with short brain breaks and a reward system. Students can earn star cards to “buy” small toys or gifts – keeping them motivated and engaged.

One of my proudest accomplishments remains my involvement in a fully funded educational research project, using game design to support children with special educational needs. It’s currently progressing to its second phase of development after a successful pilot test. It's proof of my belief that education can be both effective and inspiring when guided with care and creativity.

Bucks Tutorials Avril

Avril Carmichael

Tutor

I am a fully qualified teacher with nearly 15 years’ teaching experience in primary schools and four years’ experience of tutoring pupils and preparing them for the 11+ exam in Buckinghamshire.
I graduated from the University of Glasgow with an MA in History and I have a PGCE in primary education. Before teaching, I worked for BBC News as a journalist but left after I had my own children. I have worked in several primary schools in Buckinghamshire, mainly in years 3, 4 and 5. Since leaving my last permanent school, I have also been working as a supply teacher in addition to working as a tutor.
I enjoy teaching children all aspects of the 11+. Working in small groups is very rewarding as you can quickly improve the children’s weaknesses, while also developing their strengths. With all sessions I try to keep it well-paced and enjoyable to ensure all the children can reach their full potential. My one goal is for each child to understand the lesson, encourage them to ask questions and give them the best possible feedback.
At our Chesham Tutorial Centre, we have a “Star Cards”, where our students are rewarded with cards for improvement, which they can use to “buy” toys from our well-stocked prize cabinet – This system is very effective at motivating the children during lessons!

Bucks Tutorials Faheem

Faheem I.

Senior Tutor

I hold an MEng (2:1 Hons) in Chemical Engineering from The University of Sheffield and a postgraduate degree from Imperial College London. My academic background is rigorous, but it’s my passion for teaching that truly drives me. After more than a decade of private tutoring experience, I’ve supported students at every stage – from 11+ entrance exams to GCSE and A-Level Maths, Chemistry, Biology, and Physics.
At Bucks Tutorial Centres, I bring more than just subject knowledge. I tailor my teaching to suit each student’s learning style, using proven methods to break down complex topics into simple, digestible steps. Whether a student is aiming for top grades or rebuilding their confidence after setbacks, I create a supportive and structured environment that helps them succeed.
Many of my students exceed their target grades, but more importantly, they leave with real confidence in their abilities. One of my proudest achievements was helping a student with major knowledge gaps and exam anxiety not only catch up, but go on to exceed expectations — a powerful reminder of what’s possible with the right approach and belief.
My sessions are built around goal-setting, positive reinforcement, and regular feedback. I believe in progress over perfection, and I’m committed to making sure each student understands the ‘why’ behind what they’re learning. Because when understanding clicks, motivation follows — and success becomes inevitable.

Bucks Tutorials Imaan

Imaan A.

Tutor

Hi, I’m Imaan, and I’ve been tutoring Maths and English for nearly three years. Before joining Wycombe Tutorial Centre, I worked one-on-one with children at home, helping them boost both their academic performance and self-confidence. Now, as part of the BTC team, I work with students of all ages. I’m currently studying Psychology at university, which gives me valuable insight into how young minds learn, stay motivated, and grow. One of the most rewarding parts of tutoring is seeing a student go from “I’m not sure I can do this” to “I’ve got this!”. I also use reward-based systems to keep younger children focused and engaged, while older students often just need the right support and structure to stay motivated.
